Deceuninck - Quick Step's experienced Belgian star Philippe Gilbert took victory in Bilbao on Stage 12 of the 2019 Vuelta a España, crossing the line three seconds ahead of Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) and Fernando Barceló (Euskadi Basque Country - Murias).

The result is the sixth Vuelta stage win of Gilbert’s career and the 2019 Paris-Roubaix winner looked as strong as ever, attacking on the final climb and staying clear of the chasers for the victory.

Primož Roglič (Team Jumbo-Visma) continues to lead the GC, by 1’52” from second-placed Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) and a 2’11” margin from third-placed Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana Pro Team).
