Tadej Pogačar (UAE-Team Emirates) showed his precocious talent again on Stage 13 of the Vuelta a España 2019 as he stormed to another win, crossing the line just ahead of race leader and compatriot Primož Roglič (Team Jumbo-Visma).
Pierre Latour (AG2R La Mondiale) was third as the riders tackled a tough final climb of Los Machucos, at the end of a demanding 166.4 km stage which had already seen them take on six intermediate climbs. Alejandro Valverde, his Movistar Team colleague Nairo Quintana and Rafał Majka (BORA - hansgrohe) reached the finish with Latour, 27 seconds behind Pogačar and Roglič. Miguel Ángel López (Astana Pro Team) was seventh, 1’01” adrift of the front two.
The stage results mean Roglič now leads the GC by 2’25” from Valverde, with Pogačar moving up to third (3’01”). López (3’18”) and Quintana (3’33”) are fourth and fifth respectively.
