Tour de France 2019: Julian Alaphilippe extends lead as Thibaut Pinot wins stage 14

Julian Alaphilippe extended his overall lead of the Tour de France by finishing second to Thibaut Pinot on a gripping 14th stage in the Pyrenees.

Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) pulled away from a select group of favourites in the final few hundred metres and won by six seconds from Alaphilippe and third-placed Steven Kruijswijk (Team Jumbo-Visma).

Defending champion Geraint Thomas (Team INEOS) was distanced in the closing kilometres and finishing 36 seconds down on Pinot.

Ten, six and four bonus seconds were awarded to the top three, meaning Alaphilippe stretches his overall lead over Thomas to 2’02”, with Kruijswijk 12 seconds further back in third.
