Simon Yates produced a second Tour de France stage win on Sunday, the Mitchelton–Scott rider proving too strong for his rivals on a tough final climb to Foix Prat d'Albis.
As the race continued in the Pyrenees Yates went solo from a strong breakaway group in the final kilometres to win Stage 15, adding to his victory on Stage 12. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) built on his Saturday stage win to make ground in the GC, gaining crucial seconds with a strong finish to second place, just in front of Mikel Landa (Movistar Team).
Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas of Team INEOS finished fifth and seventh respectively, both losing time to Pinot. Julian Alaphilippe finished 11th, 1’49” behind Yates. Deceuninck - Quick Step rider Alaphilippe remains in yellow, 1’35” in front of Thomas, whilst Steven Kruijswijk (Team Jumbo-Visma) sits third in the GC at 1’47”.
Pinot is fourth overall, three seconds behind Kruijswijk and 12 seconds ahead of Bernal, who is now fifth.
