Team Jumbo-Visma’s fantastic start to the Tour de France continued on Sunday as they kept Stage 1 winner Mike Teunissen in yellow by winning Sunday’s 27.6km TTT in front of the enthusiastic crowds in Brussels.
The last team down the ramp, they produced a superb 28’57” time to win Stage 2 by 20 seconds from Team INEOS, who had sat provisionally top throughout, having gone out first. Deceuninck-QuickStep were third, one second down on Team INEOS.
Teunissen therefore retains the early leader’s jersey. It was a fine result for Team Jumbo-Visma and their main GC candidate Steven Kruijswijk, whilst sprint star Dylan Groenewegen rode well despite a crash inside the last 2km on Stage 1.
