Caleb Ewan timed his sprint to perfection to pip Sam Bennett to victory on the third stage of the Tour de France.
Riding into a block headwind, Ewan (Lotto Soudal) bided his time brilliantly before kicking for the line, and passed Peter Sagan (BORA – hansgrohe) in stunning style before going head-to-head with Bennett (Deceuninck – Quick-Step). Both riders gave it their all but it was Ewan who emerged triumphant for the fourth stage Tour win of his career.
Giacomo Nizzolo (NTT Pro Cycling) took third place in Sisteron, and the fact Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) was awarded the same time as Ewan meant he extended his spell in the yellow jersey.
Sagan meanwhile, took control of the green jersey, while Benoit Cosnefroy (AG2R La Mondiale) defended his lead at the top of the mountains classification and Marc Hirschi (Team Subweb) stays top of the young rider classification.
