Stage 8 of the Vuelta a España 2019 was won by Nikias Arndt (Team Sunweb) as the German outsprinted the rest of the lead group in the rain in Igualada.
Alexander Aranburu (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Tosh van der Sande (Lotto Soudal) were respectively second and third. The victory is Arndt’s second Grand Tour win, following his triumph on Stage 21 of the 2016 Giro d'Italia.
The peloton finished 9’23” down on a large breakaway group which included Nicolas Edet (Cofidis), who now wears the red jersey. Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Merida) is second in the GC with a 2'21" deficit, whilst Miguel Ángel López (Astana Pro Team) sits third, 3'01" adrift of new leader Edet.
