Youngster Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) produced a superb performance to win Stage 9 of the Vuelta a España 2019 in difficult conditions in Andorra on Sunday.
With heavy rain and hail making the final climb to Cortals d’Encamp even tougher 20 year-old Pogačar outpaced some seriously talented rivals over the final KMs to win in style. Crossing the finish line 23 seconds behind Pogačar in second place was Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team), whilst Primož Roglič (Team Jumbo-Visma) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) were third and fourth respectively, finishing a further 25 seconds off Quintana.
The GC is now led by Quintana, followed by Roglič (+6”), Astana Pro Team’s Miguel Ángel López (+17”) and Valverde (+20”).
