There were chaotic scenes at the Tour de France on Friday as Stage 19 was cut short due to a freak heavy hailstorm, with Egan Bernal (Team INEOS) coming out as the big winner.
No stage win awarded and riders’ times were taken at the top of the day’s penultimate climb, the Col de l'Iseran, meaning Bernal took the yellow jersey, having gone clear of his rivals on that ascent.
Bernal flew solo over the top of the Col de l'Iseran more than two minutes clear of previous race leader Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck - Quick Step), who drops to second overall, 45 seconds adrift.
Geraint Thomas (Team INEOS) remains third but is now 1’03” behind his team-mate.
There were unfortunate scenes earlier in the stage as Thibaut Pinot (Groupama - FDJ) was forced to abandon due to injury.
