Giro d'Italia 2020: Top Ganna strikes again

Filippo Ganna wrapped up his third stage win of the 2020 Giro d’Italia by producing another time trial masterclass on Stage 14.

The INEOS Grenadiers rider clocked a remarkable average speed of 48km/h over the 32.1km course and crossed the line in 42 minutes and 40 seconds which proved 26 seconds faster than his team-mate, and runner up on the stage, Rohan Dennis

Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) took third place in Valdobbiadene, 43 seconds further adrift.

The battle for the GC also proved an intriguing one, with Joao Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) ending the stage in sixth position to extend his lead in the overall standings to 56 seconds ahead of Wilco Kelderman (Team Sunweb).

Pello Bilbao (Bahrain McLaren) meanwhile, now sits 2min 11sec down on Almeida in third place overall, with McNulty up to fourth in the standings, 7sec ahead of Vincenzo Nibali (Trek Segafredo).

After the stage Ganna said: “Every victory is important for me and in this Giro we have a really strong team. We are really happy.

“My goal is to save energy now and arrive in Milan with as full a battery as possible for the final time trial, which is also my final goal.”
