Pascal Ackermann (BORA-hansgrohe) powered to victory in the rain on the final stage of Tour of Guangxi in front of Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) and Timo Roosen (Team Jumbo-Visma).
Enric Mas (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) was well-protected by his teammates all day and the Spaniard had no problems securing the overall victory.
With this being the last chance to show off the team colors, several riders were eager to get away at the start of the day. Ultimately, Frederik Frison (Lotto-Soudal), Paul Ourselin (Total Direct Energy), Kevin Van Melsen (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Wang Meiyin (Bahrain-Merida) and Jay Thomson (Team Dimension Data) got away. The latter two were also on the attack yesterday.
Accompanied by the rain, the quintet built up a gap of four minutes on the peloton. However, when they started on the climbs of the day, the gap began to come down and as Ourselin got dropped, only four riders remained at the front. They worked well together but despite putting up a courageous fight, it all came back for the expected bunch sprint as the riders took on the last four kilometers.
Unfortunately, a crash on the wet roads near the front, in the final corner, left several of the pre-stage favorites out of contention. Ackermann however had made the cut and once again, the German proved to be the fastest as he took his second stage win of the race and thereby also won the blue points jersey.
In the general classification, Daniel Martinez (EF Education First) takes second place after Mas, while Diego Rosa (Team INEOS) finishes third. The KOM jersey goes to Tomasz Marczyński (Lotto Soudal).
