Matteo Trentin handed Mitchelton-SCOTT their fourth win of this year’s Tour de France by soloing to victory out of the breakaway on stage 17.
Trentin (Mitchelton-SCOTT) attacked his fellow escapees on the second of the day’s two climbs and pulled away to beat Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) into second place by 37 seconds and Greg Van Avermaet (CCC Team) into third by 41 seconds.
Trentin’s triumph followed Daryl Impey’s win on stage nine and Simon Yates’ victories on stages 12 and 15.
The peloton eventually finished 20 minutes down on Trentin, with all the favourites together and the general classification left unchanged ahead of three race-deciding stages in the Alps.
