The Stage 1 TTT at the Vuelta a España 2019 was won by Astana Pro Team on Saturday evening as they powered to victory by two seconds from Deceuninck - Quick Step, over the 13.4km course from Las Salinas de Torrevieja to Torrevieja.

Team Sunweb finished five seconds down in third place, with EF Education First and BORA - hansgrohe completing the top five.

There was late drama as a crash hindered Team Jumbo-Visma to leave them 40 seconds down in 18th place. Sunday’s Stage 2 is a hilly 200km affair from Benidorm to Calpe commencing at 12.20pm local time.
