Primoz Roglic stormed to victory on stage 9 of Giro d’Italia as he beat Victor Campenaerts (Lotto-Soudal) and Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) in the individual time trial to San Marino.
It long looked like Campenaerts would win the stage but an ill-timed mechanical problem - causing him to change bike on the climb - proved fatal for his chances of victory as Roglic ended up beating the European champion by just 11 seconds. Mollema impressed by setting the second fastest time on the climb and gained valuable time on most of his rivals for the general classification.
Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates) finished the stage in 38th place and had no problems keeping the pink jersey for tomorrow’s rest day.
