Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott) took the Stage 19 victory at the Giro d’Italia after riding in the breakaway from the start and attacking for the win on the final climb.
Fellow breakaway riders Andrea Vendrame (Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec) and Amaro Antunes (CCC Team) closely followed Chaves over the line, with huge credit going to Vendrame in second place after a late mechanical.
Once again Richard Carapaz protected his lead in the Maglia Rosa, retaining his 1’54” advantage from Vincenzo Nibali (Team Bahrain Merida) and a 2’16” gap from Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma).
