BORA-hansgrohe’s Lennard Kämna escaped to an impressive solo victory on Stage 16 of the Tour de France, as the overall favourites all crossed the line together.
Kämna was part of an initial 18-man breakaway but moved clear on his own with a searing attack over the penultimate climb of the day and pulled away to win by 1min 27sec from runner-up Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers).
The general classification contenders followed all together almost 17 minutes later. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) accelerated twice on the category-four climb to the summit finish in Villard-de-Lans but was shut down both times.
He remains 40 seconds adrift of race leader Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma), while Rigoberto Uran (EF Pro Cycling) stays 1min 34sec down in third.
