Giro d'Italia 2020: Ulissi powers to Stage 2 win

Diego Ulissi produced a sublime punch to win the second stage of the Giro d’Italia on the uphill finish in Agrigento.

The UAE Team Emirates rider benefitted from a great lead-out from his team-mate Valerio Conte on the short, sharp drag to the line, and jumped clear with Peter Sagan (BORA-hansgrohe) and Mikkel Honore (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) on his wheel before winning the three-way sprint for victory.

Ulissi sealed the seventh Giro stage win of his career in fine style - taking the points jersey in the process - and the fact Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) was present in a reduced peloton which rolled home five seconds behind meant he defended his 22-second lead over Joao Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) at the top of the General Classification.

Sagan’s disappointment at finishing second on the stage will have been tempered by him earning a rare King of the Mountains jersey, with Ganna also defending his lead in the Young Rider Classification.

Here’s a recap of some of the standout rider data recorded from the race:
