Josef Cerny won a shortened Stage 19 of the Giro d’Italia after launching a solo attack out of the breakaway with just over 20km to go.
The CCC Team rider was part of a 14-rider breakaway that was let go by the peloton despite a hard chase from BORA - hansgrohe, and inside the final 30km a group of six riders split away to try and contest the win.
With little over 20km, Cerny made his move and was able to hold off the five-man chase, to take his first Grand Tour stage victory. Victor Campenaerts (NTT Pro Cycling) finished second, with Jacopo Mosca (Trek Segafredo) third.
The GC group came across the finish without incident, as the overall standings remained unchanged.
The parcours had been shortened from 258km to 124km and the start delayed.
