Peter Sagan took his first win in 15 months with a virtuoso display on Stage 10 of the Giro d’italia, as he soloed to victory in Tortoreto.
The BORA-hansgrohe rider was part of a breakaway which took quite some time to establish, after a fast and hard start to the day’s racing. It was a tireless 177km and Sagan’s ability to launch a solo attack on the final climb of the day underlined his class, as he took his first career win at the Giro.
There were also movements in the GC classification, as Jakob Fuglsang dropped out of the top 10 as he suffered mechanical problems in the closing kilometres. João Almeida finished third on the stage to claim bonus seconds as he maintained his hold on the Maglia Rosa, and extend his lead slightly to 34 seconds over Wilco Kelderman (Team Sunweb).
